2010 - 10 Nov 2010 - McDonald County Historical Society

by Alberta Anders

Please mark your calendars for our semi-monthly meeting of McDonald County Historical Society to be, as always, on the 3rd Sunday, November 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the McDonald County Court House on "W" Hwy (Main Street) in Pineville. All our speakers have proven to be interesting, informative, entertaining and this month is no exception. We are looking forward to a presentation by Linda Lindquist Baldwin (originally from McDonald County) the creator of the paper mache Santas called Belsnickles. Just go to www.lindalindquistbaldwin.com or www.ruralmissouri.org and see why Lynda Hardman described these unique works of art as a "reminder of a gentler time." If you are a collector of Linda's works of art that are known world wide, you will understand our excitement in having Linda, the creator of Snowsnickles, Broomsnickles, Samsnickles, Haresnickles, Littlesnickles and
her one of a kind, exclusive editions, at our meeting. Beginning in 1986,
Linda's reputation is well known, the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Crowder College Foundation in recognition of her exceptional and dedicated service to Crowder College and Pursuant of Educational Excellence in Southwest Missouri, and many other distinguished awards. The Historical Society looks forward, with eager anticipation, to an exceptional program. If you fail to attend this exciting program you will miss out on an opportunity at door prizes, by Linda, as well as a real opportunity to share memories with other Society members. There is no charge and all are invited to join us for an intriguing and exciting afternoon.

We are planning our Christmas program (in December) at the museum at 302 Harmon Street, just south of the U.S. Post Office in Pineville. Also available at the museum at this time are our very popular 2011 Calendars, available for an $8 donation or $13 if we mail them. See Dorothy, Roger or David at the Museum, to be open this Friday and Saturday at 9:00 a.m. www.mcdonaldcohistory.org.
