Attorney Bob Evenson

McDonald County Historical Society
by Alberta Anders

this Sunday - July 18, Mark your calendar - do! McDonald County Historical Society regular meeting, 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the McDonald County Court House "W" Highway in Pineville. We are excited about the presentation to be provided by the esteemed Attorney, Bob Evenson of Pineville. You won't want to miss Attorney Evenson's interesting and thought-provoking presentation.

Another thing that the Society is looking forward to, we are in the process of putting together the 2011 Calendar. This very popular calendar will have pictures and information regarding the 50th year anniversary of an interesting event in our County. If you haven't heard of 'the secession of McDonald County from the State of Missouri in 1961 you will find this coming calendar especially interesting. Gene Hall, our popular Circuit Clerk of McDonald County recalls when a junior in high school there was a general opinion that the secession was a done deal and Dorothy Beauchamp recalls being stopped at the border of McDonald County and asked to provide proof that she was entitled to enter this "other country". If you have pertinent information to this unique happening in our area, you will probably want to contact the McDonald County Historical Museum Curator, David Sparlin and exchange information/memories,photos.

The Museum is at 302 Harmon Street in Pineville, immediately south of the U. S. Post Office. Hours at the museum are Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. If you have not had an opportunity to browse through this museum, formerly the 'Old Sheriff's Home', you have missed out on one of the more interesting things to do this summer. Interesting facts, publications, pictures and historical implements relating to our local homes, businesses, happenings are on exhibit. Check out our Web Page: www.mcdonaldcohistory.org or www.mcdonaldcohistory.org/museum.htm.
